A group project in which I and 3 peers rebranded a local Reading charity. Our client was Rank & File Theatre, a group that provides a community and support for refugees and disabled actors.

This project involved a complete redesign of Rank & File’s existing branding, including a new logo, colours and outlining the Vision, Mission, and Brand Values. These are all outlined in a complete brand guidelines document that we delivered to the clients, as well as applying the new branding to several outcomes. The project was finished with a presentation, showing the branding to the clients.

This was a group project in nature, which means that all members chipped in and helped each other with deliverables. However, a key role of mine in this group was being the animator and copy editor.

The logo animation was a very interesting process for me. I had to keep it stripped back and simple, to match our vision goals for the branding. This meant I had to find a simple yet clean effect, that was well executed without being too flashy. Since the Theatre used videos for a lot of promotional material, I created an animation for the logo and applied our branding rules to show how it would work alongside our colours and typography in one of the aforementioned videos.

I made the animation in Adobe After Effects and created multiple variations of our ampersand asset in Adobe Illustrator, drawing multiple variations by hand to make the switch look natural. I then looped the variations into an animation and created a custom trace effect in After Effects to get the tagline to replicate being handwritten.

I created other designs in this project, helping with initial idea generation and variations at the start, as well as creating business card concepts and making the social media posts. These were all made using our brand guidelines to make a set of artwork.

Social media posts: A set of social media posts following the brand guidelines, creating templates and rules for the brand to follow.

Brand Guidelines: Designs created for a physically crafted record, as well as digital applications of the design for use in streaming apps like Spotify.

Set of outcomes showing our brand: new logo, business cards, a two-fold leaflet, a ticketing system reskin, and a new website.
