One of my most unique projects was being the team leader for the Punct 2024-25 BA Graphic Communication degree show. This was a complex project in which we had to brand and advertise the graduation show for our year.
This was a brilliant learning experience, as this project spanned over a year, and incorporated designing, planning, time management and multi-channel communication with designers, supervisors, printers and clients.
Once again, research played a pivotal role in beginning this project. In the summer of 2024 I published a survey, shortly following the 2023-24 degree show. I wanted to get replies from attendees telling us their experience and how they could improve the show. It was important to send out this survey quickly, to get thoughts while the show was fresh in attendees minds. The responses helped us focus our efforts on improving our show, focusing more on a cohesive brand with extra space in the showroom.
This project really pushed my teamworking and leading skills to new heights. Such a large project happening over such a long time meant the team had to balance it with all our other final year projects. I had to allow time in our timeline for busy periods of the year, which meant marking that up well ahead of time. I needed to be aware of my team members schedules so I could evenly distribute responsibilities, but allow members to step back and focus on personal work at certain times by redistributing responsibilities. This opened my eyes to the detail required to lead a team, as all my other group projects were over within the span of a few short weeks. Despite the complexities, it was an enjoyable experience and as a team we felt we created a strong show for our graduates to attend.
